When it was once established in 1945, Valmet was once a fully state-owned corporation. In 1994 Finnish state-owned organizations had been reorganised, and Valmet's tractor operations had been transferred to a joint corporation with Sisu vehicles developing the Sisu-Valmet manufacturer.[21]

In 1997 Sisu, including its tractor operations, was acquired by Partek. At the end of 1999 the Finnish State owned 30 percentage of Partek.[22]

In 1998 the manufacturer name was converted from Valmet to the transition title ValtraValmet before being shortened to Valtra in 2001.

In 2002 Partek was once bought by the Kone corporation.[22]

In 2004 Kone organization offered Valtra and SisuDiesel to the American AGCO organization for EUR 600 million.[23]
